Isla San Lucas & Playa Blanca
Embark on a unique journey that combines history and relaxation with our tour to Isla San Lucas and Playa Blanca.
Start with a visit to Isla San Lucas, a site with a rich and complex history. Once known for its notorious prison, operational from 1873 to 1991, this island is now a National Park renowned for its historical significance and natural beauty. The prison, infamous for its harsh conditions, still houses some of the original cells adorned with prisoners' graffiti and drawings. The island also boasts archaeological sites, with evidence of human habitation dating back 1000 years. Today, San Lucas is a refuge for diverse wildlife, including monkeys, armadillos, deer, and a variety of bird species. Its surrounding waters are home to hammerhead sharks, rays, and turtles. The island has recently reopened to tourism, offering visitors a chance to explore its historical remnants and lush landscapes through the Route of Reactivation.
After immersing yourself in the island’s history, we’ll sail to Playa Blanca, a secluded, private white-sand beach. Here, you can unwind in tranquility while savoring fresh, local cuisine aboard our boats. Enjoy the serene beauty of the bay, framed by small bird-filled islands, the historic San Lucas Island, and the verdant hills of the Nicoya Peninsula. This destination perfectly blends a deep dive into Costa Rica’s past with natural splendor and relaxation, offering a memorable experience of both cultural and scenic exploration.
